Built for Art.

Working with the international architectural giants Herzog & de Mueron and acclaimed local designers archimania, Memphis’ new art museum is explicitly designed to display the Brooks Museum of Art’s extensive collection of more than 9,000 artworks spanning 5,000 years of art and culture.

Flexible Art Spaces

The new museum places all art galleries on one level, democratizing the art experience and expanding the stories we can tell. Individual galleries can become larger or smaller depending on the art on view.

“This will be a world-class new home for Memphis’ art museum, right in the heart of downtown.”

Zoe Kahr, Executive Director at Memphis Brooks Museum of Art

Made for Memphis.

With 600 percent more art-filled free and public spaces to enjoy, Memphis’ new art museum will quickly become our city’s brand new “living room.”

The Front Porch

Memphis’ new museum is designed to beckon you in from Front Street and connect you with an enormous community courtyard, next-level theater, and enough art experiences to bring you back for more.

The Community Courtyard

The enormous community courtyard at the center of Memphis’ new art museum will be an escape from the business of downtown and home to the large-scale community events from Dia de los Muertos and Lunar New Year to ChalkFest, and much more.

The River Window

The River Window will perfectly frame the Mississippi and be one of the many moments to connect with the natural beauty of the river.

The River Steps

The stairs leading from the River Window up to the courtyard create a not-so-miniature amphitheater and event space to enjoy all art forms.

The Theater

Not your typical black box, the theater takes advantage of incredible views and offers a perfect space for public lectures, presentations, and artist talks. When not explicitly programmed, the theater will be an open space for co-working, catching up with friends, or recharging your creative batteries.

“Memphis’ new museum will be the beating heart of our booming downtown.”

Carl Person, Chairman of the Board of Memphis Brooks Museum of Art

Created for Connection.

Memphis Art Museum has been designed to better connect Memphis with the Mississippi River, creating a more beautiful, walkable city for locals and visitors to Bluff City.  At the edge of the river and in the heart of downtown, the Museum will play a pivotal role in connecting the riverwalk to the bustling streets.

A community gathering place

Art will spill out onto the sidewalks that will be transform the pedestrian experience into a newly paved, uninterrupted art experience with flowing pedestrian thoroughfares, bollards for safety, and intentional landscaping.

"This new museum will become an essential civic space for the people of Memphis and visitors to our city."

Mayor Jim Strickland, City of Memphis
